Roman Numerals

What the heck were the Romans under the influence of when they invented their numeral system?

Oddly, I suppose that isn't an accurate statement. It's a fairly easy conversion to write down the steps for manual conversion; my problem lied solely in telling Python how to do it.

Eventually my program was completed, in about mid-March. (Technical difficulties prevented more immediate blog post(s) on the subject.

Not without some frustration, and not without some reworking of code.
